    • Robert J. Banghart, SC, USN, 79, died Nov. 11, 1998, at Crista Shores in Silverdale. He was born Feb. 7, 1919, in Battle Creek, Mich. He married his wife Betty on Sept. 3, 1938, in Battle Creek, Mich.
      He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Arizona in 1940 and his master's degree from the Naval Postgraduate School in 1962.
      Mr. Banghart was commissioned into the Navy on April 28, 1944. His military service included action during the Asiatic-Pacific campaign in World War II and the Korean War. He retired in 1979 with the rank of captain after 35 years of service. His final assignment was as comptroller of the Naval Shipyard in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Following his naval service, Mr. Banghart worked several years at Honeywell and 10 years at Vitro.
      He was a former member of the Bremerton Kiwanis Club. He also played a British naval officer in the movie "War and Remembrance."
      Survivors include his wife; three sons, Fred of Snohomish, Bob of Federal Way and Allan of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; three daughters, Katheryn Decker of Monterey, Calif., Elizabeth Liebert of Silverdale and Martha Foltz of Renton; 18 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
      At the request of his family, memorial services will be private.
